In a small community like Seldovia, school is more than just a place to learn, it’s the heart of the town.
- Multi-grade classrooms create a unique learning environment where older students often help younger ones, building a strong sense of mentorship and community. Teachers know every student and their whole family, and education feels tailored to each child.
- Getting to school looks a little different than in the city. Many kids walk, ride their bikes, or get dropped off by parents on their way to work. Few live too far to walk, and no one lives more than 10 miles away, so the short commute means kids can spend more time at home or outside enjoying the outdoors. Or, like for us, who live right in town, our kids came home for lunch the majority of the time! As much as school is important, family time is the BEST - and you get a lot of it in Seldovia!
- School activities go beyond the classroom, students join in community events, holiday performances, sports, and local traditions. The school often brings everyone together, making it both an educational hub and a gathering place for Seldovia residents.
