Spring (May–June):
- Lupines blanket hillsides with rich purple and blue tones, thriving in open meadows and along roadsides.
- Buttercups and forget-me-nots (Alaska’s state flower) add bursts of cheerful yellow and blue as the snow melts away.
Summer (July–August):
- Fireweed dominates the landscape with its striking pink stalks. Locals even say you can tell summer’s end by how high the fireweed blooms have climbed.
- Daisies, yarrow, and wild roses spread across fields and trails, attracting bees and butterflies.
- Salmonberry and blueberry blossoms provide both beauty and the promise of sweet berries later in the season.
Late Summer–Early Fall (August–September):
- Fireweed turns to fluffy white seed, floating across the breeze like snow.
- Goldenrod and late-blooming asters keep splashes of color alive as the days grow shorter.
Beyond their beauty, these wildflowers play a vital role in Seldovia’s ecosystem supporting pollinators, enriching the soil, and providing food for both wildlife and people.
