My dad made the best pies with an emphasis on a delicious tender flakey crust and often we had pies instead of cakes for birthdays... here's a list of some of my favorites:
• Dad's blackberry pie from wild blackberries picked off the beach with a scoop of vanilla ice cream (he would let us lick the plate on this one!)
• Lemon meringue - the meringue was always so tall
• Apple - with apples from our trees and a slice of sharp cheddar cheese
